28th June 2010 – Herlihy’s Centra, Bishopstown was announced a finalist in the deli category at the ‘Best in Fresh’ Awards, organised by leading grocery trade magazine Checkout, in association with Glanbia.

The store was commended for the quality, selection and standards of it’s deli range, with the competition judges praising it for it’s innovative approach to food to go.

The Checkout ‘Best in Fresh’ awards are a major event in the Irish retail calendar, recognising genuine excellence in the provision of fresh food. Across twelve categories, some of Irelands leading grocery retail groups competed for the esteemed accolades.

Commenting on the awards, Brian Herlihy, store owner said, he was delighted to reach the finalist stage and paid tribute to the hard work and dedication of the team at Herlihy’s, Centra who strive to ensure the customer gets a top class quality range of products at good value prices across all categories. “We are delighted with this award as it demonstrates the standard of the deli department and deli selection in our store and that our deli products and systems are as good as you will find throughout Ireland”.

Speaking at the awards, John Ruddy, Editor, Checkout magazine said “The finalist stores deserve huge credit for their dedication to excellence and maintaining such high standards, while also remaining competitive on price. The last 18 months have seen some of the most difficult trading conditions in living memory, however by refusing to compromise on the quality of their fresh food offering; these retailers are those that will emerge strongest when the economy recovers".
